While most of flashlights in the market are hidden in people’s drawers, Stela has a minimal look, allowing the product to be displayed anywhere in a room for a better access in case of emergencies while being a decorative piece in the environment.
Stela is available in 3 colors: black, ruby, and silver.
The design process for Stela started from looking at a manufacturing process called metal spinning.
Through the process, a sheet metal disc is stretched over a spinning wooden or steel mold on lathe machine, allowing a hollow, symmetric form.
To use a spun aluminum piece as the body of flashlight, the shape and the internal structure have to be simple because complex details like threads can not be made through the simple spinning process.
By looking at the design through CAD modeling and removing unnecessary parts and features, the construction of the flashlight and how the parts fit were simplified and the final design developed to a very minimal design, making the product desirable to display.
To protect the LED and provide a cover, flexible PVC rubber was used. The rubber was cut in a disc with a slightly larger dimension so that the PVC disc can be pressure fitted without extra parts, and the bulged disc became a convex lens.
