While most of flashlights in the market are hidden in people’s drawers, Stela has a minimal look, allowing the product to be displayed anywhere in a room for a better access in case of emergencies while being a decorative piece in the environment.
Stela is available in 3 colors: black, ruby, and silver.
The design process for Stela started from looking at a manufacturing process called metal spinning.
Through the process, a sheet metal disc is stretched over a spinning mold on a lathe machine, allowing a hollow, symmetric shapes to be formed.
To use a spun aluminum piece as the body of flashlight, the shape and the internal structure had to be simple as complex details like threads could not be made through the simple spinning process without adding additional parts or processes.
By looking at the design through CAD and removing unnecessary parts and features, the construction and the design of the flashlight were simplified. As a result, the final shape developed to a minimal design.
To protect the LED and provide a lens, flexible PVC rubber was used. The rubber was cut to a disc shape with a slightly larger dimension to be presssure fitted, creating a slightly domed lens shape.
